Free llms.txt tool
Build an llms.txt file from your sitemap and real page titles in seconds, or check an existing one and see every problem with its line number.
Free, no account. We only read public pages.
The format
The validator checks these rules from the llmstxt.org proposal.
One H1 title
The first line is # followed by your site or product name. Exactly one H1.
A one-line summary
A > blockquote under the title saying what you do. Recommended, not required.
H2 sections of links
Each ## section is a list of - [Page name](full URL): optional short note.
An Optional section
Links under ## Optional can be skipped when a tool has little room.
Full URLs, no duplicates
Use https:// links so any tool can open them, and list each page once.
Example llms.txt
# Acme Analytics > Acme Analytics is a product analytics tool for SaaS teams. ## Docs - [Getting started](https://acme.com/docs/start): install the script and see your first report - [API reference](https://acme.com/docs/api): every endpoint with examples ## Pricing - [Plans](https://acme.com/pricing): monthly plans and limits ## Optional - [Blog](https://acme.com/blog)

llms.txt vs robots.txt vs sitemap
llms.txt does not replace robots.txt or your sitemap. If you only have time for one, get robots.txt right first: it decides whether AI crawlers can read your site at all.
| File | What it does | Who reads it | Format | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| robots.txt | Tells crawlers which pages they may fetch | All major search and AI crawlers | Plain text rules | Standard (RFC 9309) |
| sitemap.xml | Lists every page you want found | Search engines | XML | Widely supported |
| llms.txt | A short, guided list of your most useful pages | Some AI coding and docs tools; no major assistant confirmed | Markdown | Proposal (llmstxt.org) |

Add it to your site
The file must open at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. Where you put it depends on how your site is built.
Save the file as public/llms.txt (or in the folder your build copies to the site root) and deploy.
Upload llms.txt to the site root, the same folder as wp-config.php, with your host's file manager or SFTP. Some SEO plugins can create one for you, so check yours first.
Hosted builders often don't let you put a file at the domain root. Search your platform's help for llms.txt. If there is no option, skip it: llms.txt is optional.
Put the file in the web root and serve it as text/plain with UTF-8, the same way robots.txt is served.
Then open yourdomain.com/llms.txt in a browser. If it shows as plain text, paste the address into the Check tab above to confirm it follows the format.
llms.txt is a proposal from September 2024 (llmstxt.org): a markdown file at the root of your site, like robots.txt, that lists your most useful pages with a short description, so AI tools can find the right content without reading every page.
Not as far as anyone has confirmed. As of October 2026 no major AI assistant has publicly said it uses llms.txt when answering questions. Some AI coding tools and developer documentation sites do use it. Treat it as a cheap, low-risk extra, not a ranking factor.
llms-full.txt is an optional companion that puts the full text of your key pages in one file. It is mostly useful for documentation sites. This tool generates the llms.txt index; for most business sites that is enough.
It reads your homepage for the name and description, then your sitemap (from robots.txt, or /sitemap.xml). It groups pages by their first folder (docs, blog, pricing), skips login, cart and search pages, reads up to 24 real page titles and puts tag, author and legal pages under Optional. Always review the file before you upload it.
Upload it as llms.txt at the root of your domain, so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt, served as plain text. Then use the Check tab to confirm it is valid.
No. llms.txt is not a ranking factor, and Google says you don't need any special AI text files to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Normal SEO basics matter far more: pages crawlers can read, clear titles and headings, and a sitemap.
No. robots.txt tells crawlers what they may fetch and is a real standard (RFC 9309). llms.txt only suggests which pages are most useful. It cannot allow or block anything. To control AI crawlers, edit robots.txt and test it with our free AI crawler checker.
Whenever you add, remove or rename an important page, such as a new product, a pricing change or a moved docs section. A file full of dead links is worse than none, so run the Check tab after every change.
No. It can help AI tools find your pages, but whether ChatGPT or Gemini names you depends on what is written about you across the web. The free GEOREX AI visibility audit shows what ChatGPT says today.
